Q: Do I need a Licence?

All businesses operating within the District of Kitimat require a business licence. Operating a business is defined by our bylaw as:

“The carrying on of a commercial or industrial undertaking of any kind or nature or the providing of professional, personal or other services for the purpose of gain and profit, but does not include an activity carried on by the government, its agencies or government owned corporations”

Q: Where can I operate my business?

Before entering into a lease, or agreeing to purchase a commercial property be sure to ask the Director of Community Planning and Development and the Building Inspector if the “Use” you want is permitted in that zone and in the existing building.  You can inquire about your licence fee at this time.

Q: How do I get my business licence?

You apply for a license at the District of Kitimat Office, 270 City Centre, Kitimat, B.C. V8C 2H7, Monday to Friday during business hours. Your application may be reviewed by the Director of Community Planning & Development, the Building Inspector and the Fire Chief prior to final approval by the License Inspector.
