Port of Kitimat

The Private Port of Kitimat is the third largest Canadian Asia Pacific Gateway port on the West Coast of Canada; after the ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert. Based on Kitimat's natural competitive advantages, the port is seeing significant growth in private port and international trade investment.

The private port of Kitimat embodies the intent of Canada's National Marine Policy: a fully commercial port operating to serve a variety of marine transportation sectors. Public Port Deproclamation and Divestiture by the federal government of Canada in 1998 recognized that Kitimat's port had evolved without federal lands, services or facilities. Transport Canada and other federal jurisdiction applies over navigation, security and environmental safety.
