Advisory Housing Committee

The Advisory Housing Committee was established in April 2012. The mandate of this committee was to undertake a specific task — a housing needs assessment — and appropriate follow-up tasks or projects. The committee's proposed scope of work included:

  • Investigate and report on operating examples of market and non-market projects and required resources;
  • Hold direct discussions with agencies and individuals to stimulate interest in a local project; and
  • Facilitate implementation of housing strategies

The committee was initially expected to complete its work by March 2013. The mandate has been extended to 2017.

Membership is determined by Mayor and Council, in consultation with the Social Planning Oversight Group. One member is appointed by each of the following agencies: Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Child Development Centre (Kingfisher Resource Centre), Kitimat Chamber of Commerce, Kitimat Community Services Society, Kitimat Council, Northern Health, Snowflake Senior's Centre, Tamitik Status of Women, Haisla Health Workers, Haisla First Nations, and the Kitimat Ministerial Association.
