Chief for a Day

Every year during Fire Prevention Week (in mid-October), Kitimat Fire & Ambulance Service holds a “Fire Chief for a Day” contest.  Students from all elementary schools enter their names for the opportunity to have their name drawn for that honour.

The honourary Fire Chief experiences an action packed day of activities, including:

  • Being picked up from school in a fire truck
  • Meeting all of the on-duty firefighters and staff
  • Getting outfitted in fire turnout gear
  • Doing some drills with the day crew
  • Lunch meeting with the fire crew, Fire Chief, Mayor and media
  • Signing proclamations with the Mayor and Fire Chief
