Financial Boost for Coy Cup

The Kitimat Ice Demons have received a big financial boost as they prepare to defend the Coy Cup on home ice in March.
Kitimat Council has agreed to provide a $10,000 grant for the week-long event.
When the Demons last hosted the senior men's provincial hockey championship in 2006, it was a huge success -- with Tamitik Arena sold out for five of the games -- and the home team emerging as provincial champs. -
Smelter Modernization is a Go!

On 1 December 2011, Rio Tinto Alcan announced the final go-ahead for its $2.7B (US) investment to complete a $3.3B (US) modernization project at the Kitimat smelter. -

Official results of the 2011 Local General Election are now available. Mayor-elect is incumbent Joanne Monaghan. The six Councillors-elect include three incumbents: Mario Feldhoff, Rob Goffinet and Corinne Scott; and three newcomers: Edwin Empinado, Phil Germuth, and Mary Murphy. -

A Municipal Election will be held on Saturday, 19 November 2011, to elect a Mayor and six Councillors. Elected candidates will serve for a three-year term commencing December 2011. -

Sports Hero Award Recipients

Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Encana. In Kitimat the following volunteers were recognized on Wednesday September 14, 2011 in a ceremony held at Riverlodge Recreation Centre. This prestigious award recognizes coaches, officials, mentors and administrators who have dedicated themselves to growing and developing amateur sport at the community level. -
