Honorary Fire Chief

Friday, November 8 was a special day for the Kitimat Fire & Ambulance Service and a Kindergarten student from Nechako Elementary School.

Darius Nijjer was named Honorary Fire Chief, in an initiative to raise awareness about fire safety. He was picked up by the duty crew in the morning and received an engine ride around town, which included the opportunity for Nijjer to activate lights and sirens. He also toured the Fire Hall with Fire Chief Trent Bossence, Deputy Chief Peter Bizarro and other firefighters on duty.

Over the noon hour, Nijjer and his parents enjoyed lunch with Mayor Joanne Monaghan, Chief Bossence, Deputy Chief Bizarro, Captain Mike Bovingdon, the duty crew and dispatch clerk Tina Schmidt. Following lunch, the Honorary Fire Chief signed thank you letters for the local media who have supported the Fire Department's efforts in bringing fire safety to the residents of Kitimat.

Nijjer returned to Nechako School in the afternoon with a cake to share with his classmates.
