Housing Affordability Study

The BC Northern Real Estate Board's (BCNREB) latest report shows Kitimat remained the most affordable place in northern BC to own a home in 2012.

BCNREB's 10th annual Housing Affordability Study shows the proportion of median household income needed to cover mortgage costs, municipal taxes and fees, and utilities for a single-family detached home in Kitimat last year was 17.9 per cent. That figure compares with 31.6 per cent for all of northern BC and 66.4 per cent for the entire province.

Although this data indicates housing is still very affordable in Kitimat, costs have increased since 2011 when 15.3 per cent of median household income covered mortgage, municipal taxes and fees, and utility costs for a single-family detached home.
