Campfire Ban Lifted; Open Burns Still Prohibited

Effective noon today campfires will once again be permitted within the District of Kitimat. This coincides with the BC Wildfire Service lifting its campfire ban within the Northwest Fire Centre's jurisdiction.

The following activities will be allowed:

  • 􀂇campfires (no larger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide)
  • 􀂇outdoor stoves and other portable campfire apparatuses
  • 􀂇tiki torches, burn barrels and chimineas

Please note Category 2 open burning, Category 3 open burning, fireworks and firecrackers will remain prohibited to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety. These prohibitions will remain in place until Sept. 30, 2015 or until the public is otherwise notified.

For more information, please call the Kitimat Fire Department at 250-632-8940.
