Leisure Services Department Update

As District of Kitimat employees return to work, the Leisure Services Department will be preparing the recreation facilities to allow the public to access them.  Prior to re-opening of any of the facilities, our staff will be assessing various building equipment, cleaning requirements and any required maintenance.  Once complete, recommendations will be made for estimated re-opening dates.

Priorities for the Leisure Services Department include Radley Park, Hirsch Creek Park, Riverlodge and the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre.  A review of the Tamitik Arena and Kitimat Ice Rink will also take place and these facilities will re-open as we prepare for the upcoming ice seasons.  Gardens, playgrounds and outdoor parks will be reviewed by our gardening staff to allow full use by the public.

Hikers who use any Kitimat trails should be aware of fallen trees or branches, loose rocks and uneven ground on all trail systems.  Issues encountered while hiking can be reported to the District of Kitimat at 250-632-8900.  Please make note of the trail in question, the problem and the approximate location of problem on the trail.  Clean-up work will be scheduled as time allows but may not occur for several weeks.

Estimated reopening dates for the facilities and other Leisure Services information will be advertised via:

We thank the public for their patience and understanding while the preparation for the re-opening of facilities is undertaken. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
