Extreme Weather Alert (Amendment on shelter location)

Pursuant to sec. 2(2)(b) of the Assistance to Shelter Act an Extreme Weather Alert (EWA) is underway for the District of Kitimat, British Columbia.  This EWA activated the authorities in the Assistance to Shelter Act for police to assist persons at risk due to extreme weather conditions and remains in effect until it is canceled. The term "Extreme Weather" is used for the winter months of November 1, 2015 - March 31, 2016 as the nighttime conditions during this period are predominantly cold and wet.

This EWA amendment is being issued on February 29, 2016 at 7:30 am, and will remain in effect until March 31, 2016 due to winter weather conditions.

The following shelter(s) will be providing spaces during this EWA:

If you require shelter at any time between March 1, 2016 – March 31, 2016, please call 250-639-6065.  A sign will be posted on the door of the Northwest Community College Campus in Kitimat (606 Mountainview Square) with this information.

The shelter at Kitimat First Baptist Church, 840 Columbia Avenue E is no longer operational.
