Update on the Minette Bay West Concept Planning Process

The District of Kitimat is currently working on Phase 1 of the Minette Bay West Concept Plan project. A consulting team of biologists, archaeologists, landscape architects, foresters and other professionals has been engaged to study and document the resources on the site, as well as to identify opportunities and challenges for recreation. The Haisla Nation is also participating in the project.

As a first step, the consultants flew a drone over the site to capture high resolution imagery of the entire 191 hectares. Click here to see a video of the drone in action. Additional Phase 1 tasks, including environmental and archaeological investigations, are underway and will continue through the end of summer. Click here to see photos from our site visits to date.

Interested in participating in the planning process?

The results of the Phase 1 site investigation work will be presented at a public open house in October; date and venue to be announced next month. There will also be a public questionnaire available in hard copy and online. Additional opportunities to get involved will follow and will be widely advertised using various media, including the District of Kitimat website, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
