Dog Licence purchases due February 15

Dog licence purchases and renewals are due by February 15 of each year, and expire on December 31 each year.
You can purchase your dog tag at the District of Kitimat office at 270 City Centre, third floor of the mall. You can also buy them at the Kitimat Community Humane Society at 1000 Eurocan Way.
The cost of a dog licence in Kitimat is currently $15 per year if spayed or neutered, $50 a year for an intact dog, and free if it is for a guide dog.

Teach pool temporarily closed until morning of January 28

Due to non-technical, unforeseen circumstances the teach pool at the Kitimat Aquatic Centre is temporarily closed until the morning of January 28.
The remaining pools - the lane pool, kiddie pool, leisure pool, and hot tub - are open on their regular schedules.

UPDATE, January 26 | It's taking a bit longer to get these pools ready for the public, and we now anticipate they will be re-open when the pool opens tomorrow, January 27.
Just for the public's information, this closure is not due to any mechanical issues and everything will be working as normal once it re-opens.

On January 17, 2023 at approximately 12:06 pm, the Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Service responded to a report of a residential structure fire on the 500 block of Columbia Avenue.
On arrival, crews found a fully involved structure with reports of one occupant still inside the home. Two other residents who were also in the residence at the time were able to escape but suffered from fire-related injuries. Both occupants were taken to hospital by ambulance. To accommodate the delivery of three oversize and overweight loads which will be travelling to an LNG laydown yard southwest of Kitimat Please expect some minor traffic delays on Saturday morning January 21st, 2023 between 12:00 AM and 5:00 AM. The loads are assumed to arrive in Kitimat within 30 minutes of each other.
