August 26, 2020 – The District of Kitimat is aware of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case at Civeo’s Sitka Lodge in Kitimat.
We commend Civeo and their industrial partners for their fast mitigation efforts upon identifying the case. We have confidence that Civeo has appropriate policies and procedures in place to manage this case and to minimize potential further transmission.

Free Transit Fare for Students

August 21, 2020 - The District of Kitimat is pleased to announce the implementation of free bus fares for K-12 students.
The one year pilot project is intended to:
- Support families by lifting cost barriers and increasing transportation access.
- Introduce more young residents to public transportation and facilitate a shift towards more environmentally sustainable transportation habits.
Students in high school (ages 15-18) will be required to show their student ID’s in order to participate in the pilot...

The District of Kitimat continues to diligently monitor COVID-19 developments. As facilities begin to resume operations, proactive measures continue to be utilized to minimize potential transmission of COVID-19. See attached document for the current impacts to municipal facility operations.

August 12, 2020 – Due to complaints regarding emissions from a controlled burn at the landfill, burning has ceased as of 12:30 p.m. today.
