Family Day Holiday Closures

Family Day is on Monday, February 19, 2024.
Our offices will be closed to the public this day to mark the holiday.
Riverlodge Recreation Centre will also be closed this day but there are activities happening at Tamitik Jubilee Sports Complex. On the Monday there will be a free public skate at KIR from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., then a sensory swim 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., and finally a free waterpark swim from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Extreme Temperature Project
The District of Kitimat and Haisla Nation are partnering on a project to better understand and plan for extreme temperature weather events.
An important project is now underway to understand which areas of our communities (both people and assets) are most at risk during extreme heat and cold weather. The Project will create plans to help address and reduce the potential impacts on our communities.

The District of Kitimat is launching its annual communications survey to know how residents get their information, and how well they feel they communicate with us.

Totem pole will honour x̄á’isla history and land at Haisla Bridge

The District of Kitimat, with support from Haisla Nation Council, has selected Haisla artist Nathan Wilson to carve a totem pole which will overlook the new Haisla Bridge.
This totem pole will stand at the southeast end of the bridge, on waw̓áis (pronounced wah-wehs) held by Chris Wilson, across the road from the Kitimat Rod & Gun building.
