The District of Kitimat extends its condolences to the people of Tumbler Ridge who are grappling with such an unimaginable tragedy in their community tonight. We cannot begin to know the grief they are feeling but we will lift them up in our hearts and stand with them in this dark time as they mourn those they have lost.

Businesses encouraged to apply for tax exemption program

Local commercial building owners are encouraged to apply for the Commercial Centre Revitalization Tax Exemption program.
This program means that improvements to your commercial building could make the property eligible for a 50 per cent discount on the municipal property taxes for up to 10 years.
Improvements can include external improvements and improvements to a building’s energy efficiency.

The District of Kitimat water system is now under a Boil Water Notice, due to turbidity of the Kitimat River. All users of the water system are urged to boil the water for at least two minutes before consuming.
All owners of public premises must make patrons aware of this boil water notice.

Temporary closure of Dike Road, February 4, 2026

Due to the risks associated with rising water and bank erosion along the Kitimat River, the Dike Road by Riverlodge is temporarily closed for safety.
The public is encouraged to avoid riverbanks as environmental conditions can change rapidly and river water moves swiftly and strongly.
