LIFTED: The below advisory has now been lifted.

Effective Monday, January 12, 2026, the District of Kitimat water system is under a Water Quality Advisory, due to elevated turbidity in the Kitimat River. Northern Health recommends that children, persons who are pregnant, the elderly and persons with weakened immune systems drink boiled water at this time.

All owners of public premises must make patrons aware of this Water Quality Advisory.

Public skate times change on January 3

Due to unanticipated maintenance we have to cancel the morning public skating times tomorrow, January 3. The affected programs are:

  • Family Stick and Puck, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
  • Everyone Welcome Skate, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Everyone Welcome Shinny, 11:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m..
Things will resume starting with the Open Shinny at 12:30 p.m. Thank you for your understanding.

Free transit after 7:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve

The District of Kitimat with BC Transit is offering free public transit in Kitimat after 7:00 p.m. on December 31.

Bus service will also continue until 5:00 a.m. for routes 1, 2, and 3.
