It may be for the website but we'd love to see you away from the screen for this one!

We are hosting two drop-in open houses to show the progress so far on rebuilding Kitimat.ca and to gather more feedback on the process. We've appreciated all the feedback and input provided to date!

There are two options for open houses:

  • Wednesday, September 17 at Riverlodge Recreation Centre, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m..
  • Thursday, September 18, at the Kitimat Public Library, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

District of Kitimat Opens Cooling Centre in Tamitik Arena

The District of Kitimat is opening a cooling centre at Tamitik Arena, recognizing the high temperatures forecasted throughout this week. Details for the cooling centre are below:

Location: Tamitik Arena

Hours of operation: 8:30am to 10:00 p.m.

Duration: Tuesday, August 26 to Sunday, August 31

Members of the public are encouraged to stop by this cooling centre as relief from hot temperatures.

Report card measures progress on Official Community Plan

A report card on the Official Community Plan puts to print the effort the District of Kitimat has taken to achieve our core themes in this community vision document.

The report was presented to Council on July 7, providing a qualitative look at District’s actions and efforts.

In an OCP, the content provides guidance for Council to make decisions which match the residents’ interest for how the community should grow or develop over time.

The OCP’s themes are:

  • Cultivate Diversified Economic Growth.

Traffic impacts relating to August 16 concert

Residents will notice noise and parking and traffic changes around Riverlodge Recreation Centre relating to the LNG Canada-hosted community celebration of Saturday, August 16.

The following traffic changes will be in effect:

  • Dyke Road (at Riverlodge) will be closed to traffic.
    • Saturday, August 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.. Local traffic and emergency vehicles will continue to be allowed. The event organizers are responsible to provide necessary access.
