Join the FireSmart Kitimat team at Lakelse Lake on Thursday, August 14. At both 11:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m. there will be a scavenger hunt trail walk, starting at the Furlong Bay beach parking lot. Survey seeks understanding on federal immigration changes

Together with the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce and Kitimat Community Services Society, we'd like to know how recent immigration changes - specifically Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada's (IRCC) tighter limits on Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs), spousal work permits, and study permits - affect business owners. Traffic notices for August paving

Due to paving there will be single-lane, alternating traffic in parts of the community in August.

  • Kuldo Boulevard, near Dadook Avenue, until Friday, August 15.
  • Haisla Boulevard, from just south of the Service Centre until near the Eurocan Way intersection until Friday, August 15.
  • Kingfisher Avenue, near Haisla Boulevard. Until Friday, August 15.

Riverlodge operating hours adjustment

There will be some upcoming, temporary disruptions to the Riverlodge Recreation Centre’s hours in August.

  • From Wednesday, August 13 to Tuesday, August 18, Riverlodge will be closed to allow for the set up and take down of LNG Canada’s community celebration, hosted on Saturday, August 16.
  • Riverlodge will also be closed on August 20 until 5:00 p.m. due to staff training.

Memberships will be extended by one week.

We look forward to being back to our full regular hours from Thursday, August 21.

A reminder the Aquatic Centre will close for its annual maintenance

A reminder that the 2025 annual maintenance schedule for the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre is August 5 to September 21, with the final swim before the closure on Sunday, August 3.

We close each year because a public swimming pool requires a lot of complex machinery and plumbing to handle the thousands of patrons we welcome each year. All public swimming pools undergo a period where they need to lock the doors so they can focus on the year’s required maintenance.
