UPDATE #2 The Tsunami Advisory has now been lifted. UPDATE The National Tsunami Warning Center has upgraded this alert to a Tsunami Advisory. A Tsunami Advisory means strong currents are likely and to stay away from the shore and water. We are aware of a Tsunami Watch that includes some coastal areas, including Kitimat. Call for Artists - Community signage project

The District of Kitimat is seeking a x̄á’isla artist to create designs that will be incorporated onto future community signage.
The selected artist will be asked to provide up to three designs to accommodate potentially three differently sized signs.

- Council adopted the Leisure Services Fees and Charges Amendment Bylaw, which generally provides a four per cent increase with some exceptions, as well as a $3 booking fee for the municipal campgrounds, and rental fees for a snow cone machine and a dunk tank.

New facility brings composting to the Kitimat Landfill

A newly opened compost facility at the Kitimat Landfill means locally gathered food waste can now be processed right here inside the community.
The Kitimat Compost Facility project was paid for through a $1.2 million CleanBC Organics Infrastructure Program grant and $1.5 million in funding from LNG Canada.
This means local food waste does not require any more transfer to facilities outside of the community.

Kitimat Landfill re-open after temporary closure

UPDATE | The landfill is now re-open for regular hours on Friday, July 25.
Due to technical issues at the Kitimat Landfill, the facility is temporarily closed to the public the afternoon of Thursday, July 24, 2025.
We will update this post if it reopens this afternoon.
