Public encouraged to keep safe during times of high heat

Temperatures will be approaching 30C for the next two days, with lows near 13C. High temperatures can be hard on people’s health, particularly with vulnerable persons such as those 65+ years of age, people with pre-existing health conditions, people who are pregnant and young children, among others. The District of Kitimat congratulates the members of the newly elected Haisla Nation Council, including Chief Councillor Maureen Nyce, following this week's election.
The District and Haisla Nation have accomplished so much in the past number of years and we are excited to continue that progress in the years to come.

Radley Park, Hirsch Creek Park temporarily closed to tenting

On recommendation from the Conservation Officer Service (COS), Kitimat’s municipal campgrounds – Radley Park and Hirsch Creek Park – will close to tents and pop-up tent trailers until further notice. Bear activity at both parks has the COS advising this action while they address this issue. Tent campers either currently in the parks or with booked reservations can request a full refund. Annual pool closure from August 5 to September 21

The 2025 annual maintenance schedule for the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre is August 5 to September 21, with the final swim before the closure on Sunday, August 3.
We close each year because a public swimming pool requires a lot of complex machinery and plumbing to handle the thousands of patrons we welcome each year. All public swimming pools undergo a period where they need to lock the doors so they can focus on the year’s required maintenance.
