  • The District of Kitimat’s grant writer provided an update on their activities.
  • Council provided the first three readings of the bylaw to amend Leisure Services fees. Fee changes will include:
    • A general four per cent increase except for concerts/shows, adult admission, family admission and camping fees.
    • An addition of a $3 booking fee for Radley Park and Hirsch Creek Park.

No disruption to curbside waste pick up on Canada Day

On Tuesday, July 1, curbside waste collection will continue as normal with no disruptions due to Canada Day.

The Kitimat Landfill, however, will be closed to the public due to this statutory holiday.

Addressing invasive plants in Kitimat

This year, the Northwest Invasive Plant Council (NWIPC) will be assessing and managing invasive plant species within the District of Kitimat municipal boundary.

The District of Kitimat and the NWIPC have agreed that wherever possible, invasive plants shall be removed using mechanical methods (hand-pulling, mowing, digging etc.) with limited chemical treatments to control more aggressive species, particularly Japanese Knotweed.

Traffic changes coming up ahead of weekend, Canada Day

Several upcoming events will require temporary road and parking lot closures:

  • The Memorial Hill Climb takes place on June 28, with a rain-out date scheduled for June 29. Haisla Boulevard will be closed from Kingfisher Boulevard to Tsimshian Boulevard. Please use the detour via Kuldo Boulevard.

  • During the Hill Climb, the Mountainview Square parking lot (adjacent to the veterinarian office) will also be closed for event use.
