Upcoming traffic changes at and near Haisla Bridge

Work on and near Haisla Bridge will result in the following upcoming traffic changes:

  • Station Street in Service Centre will be closed to traffic from May 2 to May 12. Detours will be in effect.
  • From Sunday, May 5 to Friday, May 31 expect some delays crossing Haisla Bridge between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., as well as single-lane alternating traffic from 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. daily

Coming to mailboxes starting the week of April 22 is a letter of notice for the meeting of the Tax Review Panel.

The letter you have or will receive, on a blue-sheet of paper, will be headlined Notice of Court of Revision.

The purpose of the letter and the meeting of the tax review panel is to confirm that the name(s) we have on file for your property is correct for the District of Kitimat’s flat tax roll.

2024 yard waste begins a week earlier

Yard waste pick-up is starting early this year.

The year's first yard waste collection will be Monday, April 29. This first collection day will be for those with a Tuesday or a Thursday waste collection day.

Also, yard waste will now continue an extra week, to November 18.

On your collection calendars, yard waste is marked with a leaf icon. A maple leaf means anyone with waste pick-up on Wednesdays and Fridays. A green leaf means anyone with a collection day on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Understanding new provincial zoning requirements

An overview of how Bill 44, new provincial legislation regarding residential zoning, will impact Kitimat was heard at the March 25 Council meeting.

Bill 44 requires communities of more than 5,000 - which includes Kitimat - to amend their zoning to permit a minimum of three units on lots that are smaller than 280 m2, and a minimum of four units on lots greater than that size, up to 4,050 m2. There are also changes to public hearings and other requirements.
