Ammonia leak drill scheduled for November 20

Tamitik Jubilee Sports Complex staff and the Kitimat Fire Department will be performing an ammonia leak drill on November 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
You may see emergency personnel and equipment during this exercise. Anyone at the facility during this time will be asked to follow direction as they would during an actual emergency.
Thank you very much for your patience during this important safety exercise.
A reminder for winter parking rules

Winter is upon us!
Until March 31, street parking cannot interfere with our snow clearing operations. Also specifically, street parking is not permitted between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m..
Vehicles parked on the street in the way of snow clearing are at risk of being towed.
Please let our snow operators work and ensure you are parked elsewhere.
From November 1, on-property restrictions also went into effect to support snow clearing.
This means your trailers, RVs and boats may need to find a new place...

Landfill minimum fee changes at the turn of the new year

The District of Kitimat continues to support waste diversion and thorough use of the curbside collection program.
In 2023, this strategy involved implementing costs at the Kitimat Landfill.
Effective January 1, 2025, the minimum tipping fee for the landfill becomes $10 per visit.
Encouraging more use of curbside collection and discouraging individual use of the landfill means extending the life of our landfill, which is otherwise close to the end of its lifespan.

Kitimat Boil Water Notice, November 7, 2024

The District of Kitimat water system is now under a Boil Water Notice, due to water quality of the Kitimat River caused by recent high water flows and heavy rain. All users of the water system are urged to boil the water for at least one minute before consuming.
All owners of public premises must make patrons aware of this boil water notice.
