High waters affecting access to parks and to the Dyke Road

High water levels in the Kitimat River and Hirsch Creek due to recent rains is affecting public access to certain park spaces.

For public safety, the District of Kitimat has closed access to:

  • Radley Park
  • Hirsch Creek Park
  • Minette Bay West Park
  • Dyke Road, at Columbia Avenue

Kitimat Ice Rink repairs anticipated to start early 2025

After comprehensively working with our insurance provider, the District of Kitimat has selected a contract administrator that will work with the District of Kitimat to oversee the repair of the Kitimat Ice Rink.

By the end of November, it is anticipated that the request for tender of the repair to the Kitimat Ice Rink will be released.  The selection process of the successful contractor will take place in December, and it is anticipated that the construction phase of the repair of the Kitimat...

Demolition schedule set for District-owned buildings at Nechako Centre

We have shared new details about the planned demolition of District of Kitimat-owned buildings at Nechako Centre, on its project page at Get Involved Kitimat.

As planned, the site will be mobilized and fencing installed starting November 12, followed by an abatement phase and then a demolition phase of the project.

The entire demolition project is expected to be completed by the end of January.

Kitimat's water quality advisory has ended

Kitimat's Water Quality Advisory has now been lifted, effective 4:00 p.m., October 25, 2024.

This ends the active water advisories which were first implemented on September 23.

Spray park engagement survey launches

A public engagement survey to gather community feedback on a planned spray park for Kitimat has launched.

The District is moving ahead on the project following a completed feasibility study, presented in September.

Now, we're looking for feedback to help refine the plans and designs of the spray park.

The survey asks questions about the look of the spray park, opportunities for updates to the adjacent Lions Playground, and even about the future of the Kitimat wading pools.
