April 3, 2020 - The District of Kitimat and the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce are seeking three volunteers from the local business community to join the new Kitimat Economic Recovery Taskforce. Selected candidates will join other designated community leaders to comprise an eight member team, which will aim to facilitate local economic recovery in the wake of Coronavirus. March 30, 2020 – The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy in collaboration with provincial public health partners has issued open burning restrictions for all High Smoke Sensitivity Zones across the province until Wednesday April 15th, 2020. Kitimat is subject to these areas, and is cooperating with these restrictions.
These restrictions apply to all Class A and Class B open burning. All current Class A and B permits are suspended. No new open burn...

March 27, 2020 – Acting within the order from the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General (Order No. M083), the District of Kitimat will be closing its Council meeting gallery to the public. This is done to reduce any potential transmission of COVID-19, and respect the Public Health Officer’s orders regarding physical distancing.
Meetings will still be recorded and uploaded to www.kitimat.ca as normal, within two days of the meeting.
