Budget 2024 set, tax rate increase set to 4 per cent

The District of Kitimat annual budget has been approved.
The budget sets a property tax rate increase of 4%.
The District of Kitimat has also set this year’s Flat Tax rate at $723.
In terms of how property tax revenues are split among property classes, residential properties contribute 14.03% of property tax revenue. Business and Commercial contributes 8.10% while major industry’s portion is 75.64%.
The municipality’s overall budget for 2024 is $62,410,979.

During the weekend of May 18 and 19, expect daytime single-lane alternating traffic over Haisla Bridge, between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
District, Haisla Nation win Economic Reconciliation Award

The District of Kitimat is proud to say that together with Haisla Nation it has won the BC Economic Development Association's Economic Reconciliation Award (for a community less than 20,000). This award acknowledges the work we've done together through the CEDI partnership.
The CEDI program, launched here in March 2022, is a facilitated, collaborative process to address economic development challenges through a respectful, equitable partnership.

Traffic disruption at Kuldo and Haisla Boulevard

UPDATE:
A motor vehicle incident has caused a disruption for traffic coming to and from the Service Centre.
Westbound traffic, towards the Service Centre, is stopped and detoured at the Lahakas and Haisla Boulevard intersection. Traffic is directed through the Kildala Neighbourhood and single-lane alternating traffic is in place at the Kuldo and Haisla Boulevard intersection, to reach the Service Centre.
Please follow the direction of all traffic control.

Campgrounds opening Friday, May 17

Radley Park and Hirsch Creek Park campgrounds will be open to the public as of 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17.
If you still need to book a site, head over to www.kitimat.ca/camping to reserve your spot today!
The sheltered areas at both campgrounds can also be reserved for your gatherings. Just phone Tamitik Jubilee Sports Complex at 250-632-8955 to inquire about availability.
