Scheduled traffic stop on Haisla Boulevard morning of May 10

Between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10 there will be a five minute stop of traffic on Haisla Boulevard, between the pedestrian overpass and Tsimshian Boulevard. This is to accommodate a truck with a tall load.

New electronic fare system for Kitimat’s public transit

BC Transit’s Umo (pronounced “you-mo”) electronic fare system is now live in Kitimat.
Umo introduces contactless payment methods and new fare products.
BC Transit will have information available in the Lower City Centre Mall entrance on Thursday, May 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. See their post below for more information.

Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Services responds to house fire on Kechika Street

Kitimat, BC — At 11:02 a.m., Kitimat’s Fire and Ambulance Service responded to a residential structure fire at 65 Kechika Street.
On arrival fire crews found the structure fully involved, but thankfully there have been no reported injuries at this time. The property did sustain a substantial amount of damage.
The department responded to the incident with 3 engines, 13 firefighters, and 2 chief officers.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
