FREEZING RAIN: PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION
January 10, 2022 – Freezing rain is causing extremely slippery conditions on roads and walkways throughout Kitimat.
Crews are currently out with plowing and sanding equipment, but as rain continues to fall, conditions remain very icy.
Please exercise caution on roads and walkways, and avoid driving if possible.

Kitimat is seeing an unusually cold winter. In December, the average temperature in Kitimat is usually about -2°C, and this year it was -7°C, with a cold snap of -20°C at times. KITIMAT ICE RINK AIR QUALITY UPDATE
December 8, 2021 – A previous air quality notice that noted higher than typical fungal spores in the Kitimat Ice Rink has now been rescinded.
Testing has confirmed that the facility’s air quality is satisfactory and there is no concern to human health. The District of Kitimat has implemented a regular monitoring program for the facility to ensure that the air quality remains at normal levels.

Minette Bay West Park UPDATE Kitimat’s First Waterfront Public Recreational Space Through 2021, the District of Kitimat continued development of Minette Bay West Park. Our crews completed some additional groundworks activities in the Spring.
