Call for Submissions open for totem pole carving project

To commemorate the opening of the new Haisla Bridge, the District of Kitimat and Haisla Nation Council will dedicate a Haisla totem pole, which will be located just north of the new bridge on the east bank of the Kitimat River.
This totem pole is planned to be incorporated as part of a proposed lookout.

The call for submissions closes on September 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
Tree clearing work may cause intermittent closures at Radley Park boat launch

Tree clearing taking place near Haisla Bridge may cause brief, intermittent closures at the Radley Park Campground boat launch.
This work will begin August 23, and continue to August 25.
Signs and traffic control will be in place.

Single lane, alternating traffic on Haisla Bridge during evenings

To allow for work relating to the removal of the old Haisla Bridge, there will be single-lane, alternating traffic in the evenings from 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m., starting August 16 through to August 31.

Walkway detours starting for Sumgas Creek Restoration project

Construction activity for the Sumgas Creek Restoration project will mean a portion of walkway, from the connection to Skeena Street up to its connection to Okanagan Street, will be closed.
This will begin August 16 and continue until September 15. Signs (see below) are being posted to indicate detour routes.
From August 30 up to September 15, the walkway adjacent to the Kitimat First Baptist Church property will be closed.

On Friday, August 11 at noon the District of Kitimat is lifting the campfire and backyard fire ban within the municipal boundaries.
