Programming cancellations due to KIR fire

Due the fire at Kitimat Ice Rink on March 17, the following programs are cancelled:

  • Open Shinny
  • Public Skate
  • Family Stick & Puck
  • Everyone Welcome Shinny

The Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre and Tamitik Arena are open to the public.

Feel free to call the Tamitik Jubilee Sports Complex if you have questions about programming or if you'd like to check on the status of the pools before you arrive, at 250-632-8955.

Fire Department responds to morning call to Kitimat Ice Rink

UPDATE:

The Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre will also be closed today, March 17. This is due to access restrictions on the outside walkways near the pool's entrance, following the fire at Kitimat Ice Rink. The public is encouraged to not use the walkways outside Kitimat Ice Rink and the Aquatic Centre entrance, and to follow any posted signs and barricades.

Tamitik Arena remains open for today's programming.

Deadline extended to join the Backyard Hen Keeping Pilot Project

The District of Kitimat has extended its deadlines for residents to apply for the Backyard Hen Keeping Pilot Project.

Now, both households with existing hens and new households have until March 31 to submit their application.

It continues to be crucially important to register. Households that already have hens could face bylaw enforcement after April 1 as abeyance of this portion of the Kitimat Municipal Code will end.

Kitamaat Village connects with District of Kitimat’s WayLessWaste program

The District of Kitimat is excited to welcome Kitamaat Village to the WayLessWaste curbside collection program.

Haisla Nation Council’s introduction to this service means they join the District’s efforts to divert waste from the Kitimat Landfill, extending the landfill’s life and better supporting the environment.

Kitamaat Village’s participation in the WayLessWaste program is thanks to funding from Indigenous Services Canada.
