The Kitimat Fire Department says today's heavy smoke it is caused by a fire down the Kildala Arm of the Douglas Channel. While our air quality is like this here is some advice about managing its health affects: If you have a chronic condition, have rescue medication on hand at all times and a plan to follow if your rescue medication cannot bring your condition under control. The District of Kitimat is now implementing a campfire/backyard fire ban, in line with recently updated restrictions in place across the Northwest Fire Centre region.
This is in effect as of 3:00 p.m., July 10, 2023.

Due to today’s extreme heat and our need to ensure a safe work environment for our staff, the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre will close tonight, July 7, at 5:00 p.m. The facility will re-open tomorrow morning, July 8, at 11:00 a.m. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
Road resurfacing means alternating traffic on July 8

On July 8, road resurfacing work on Haisla Boulevard, between Lahakas Boulevard and Kuldo Boulevard, will mean single-lane, alternating traffic from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.

Enjoy Kitimat's outdoor wading pools this summer

The District of Kitimat is happy to offer our outdoor wading pools this summer.
The Chilko and Heron Street wading pools are a refreshing, supervised play area that are open from July 2 to August 18, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on sunny days. They are not open Mondays or Tuesdays.
Children six and under must be supervised by a guardian who is at least 16 years old.
