UPDATE | The Water Quality Advisory has been lifted as of noon on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

As of Monday, January 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., the District of Kitimat water system is under a Water Quality Advisory.

Northern Health recommends that children, pregnant women, the elderly and persons with weakened immune systems drink boiled water at this time.

All owners of public premises must make patrons aware of this Water Quality Advisory.

Business Facade Improvement Program returns for 2024

The District of Kitimat is supporting local businesses through the Business Façade Improvement Program.

The program, funded through Northern Development Initiative Trust, provides approved businesses up to 50 per cent of the cost of their exterior improvements, to a maximum of $5,000. Funding is allocated on a first come-first serve basis.

The grant is a reimbursement to businesses which are approved, and work must take place in the 2024 calendar year.

The District of Kitimat is launching its annual communications survey to know how residents get their information, and how well they feel they communicate with us.

Curbside garbage can limit change starts February 5

Starting February 5, residents will be able to place up to two garbage containers (maximum of 121 litre containers each) to the curb each garbage collection day. This is a change from the currently allowed three.

This aligns with many other B.C. communities which have implemented similar limits to their curbside collection.
