The District of Kitimat is privileged to honour the recipients of this year’s Distinguished Citizen Awards.

Each year as part of our July 1 celebrations, the District recognizes the positive ways citizens build and support our community.

The recipients are selected from candidates who are nominated by residents in the community.

We’re sad to say we have made the agonizing decision to implement a restriction on fireworks in Kitimat this July 1.

The Kitimat Fire Department considered the ongoing dry conditions and the lack of rain in our forecast in making this decision in the interest of community safety.

The Leisure Pool section of the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre is still closed as we source out required parts for maintenance of this section of the pool.

Road resurfacing work on Lahakas Boulevard the week of June 26

Road resurfacing work on Lahakas Boulevard, from the area by Lower City Centre parking lot up to the Lahakas and Quatsino Boulevard intersection, will be taking place from June 26 until June 29.

This work will take place in the evenings, between 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and will mean alternating, single-lane traffic during the work.

Flood mapping updates brings new awareness for residents

The District of Kitimat with McElhanney have updated the community’s flood maps to better understand flood risks in today’s world.

A summary report about flood mapping is now available on the District’s website here.

Residents are welcome to browse this site for information about flood risks, how it will impact each community and also what the District’s plans are to use this information in the years ahead.
