Kitimat Landfill is now open after slight delay

After a slight delay in opening for the day, due to some complications from the cold weather, the Kitimat Landfill is now open and running normally.

Water main repair on Kingfisher, January 10, 2024

Due to an unplanned water main repair, there is a detour in place on Kingfisher Avenue, between Haisla Boulevard and Oriole Street. Only local traffic allowed through that section at this time. There are currently no reports of this issue affecting residents' water. Thank you for your patience while we work on these repairs.

Totem pole will honour x̄á’isla history and land at Haisla Bridge

The District of Kitimat, with support from Haisla Nation Council, has selected Haisla artist Nathan Wilson to carve a totem pole which will overlook the new Haisla Bridge.

This totem pole will stand at the southeast end of the bridge, on waw̓áis (pronounced wah-wehs) held by Chris Wilson, across the road from the Kitimat Rod & Gun building. Backyard hen pilot project begins in Kitimat

A pilot project allowing backyard hens in residential areas of Kitimat is launching in 2024.

Participation in the Backyard Hen Keeping Pilot Project will include up to 12 Kitimat households not already raising hens along with anyone already raising hens.

The pilot project spans the Whitesail, Nechako and Kildala neighbourhoods, where traditionally this activity is not permitted. Residents in Cable Car and Strawberry Meadows are already permitted to raise backyard hens through their zoning.

BC Transit is providing this special extended service on December 31 between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. and it is sponsored by LNG Canada and the District of Kitimat.
