The Water Quality Advisory, issued on October 28, 2022, has now been lifted with the agreement of Northern Health.

Effective November 2, 2022 - This water quality advisory has been lifted.

October 28, 2022 - Until further notice, the District of Kitimat water system is under a Water Quality Advisory. Northern Health recommends that children, pregnant women, the elderly and persons with weakened immune systems drink boiled water at this time.

All owners of public premises must make patrons aware of this Water Quality Advisory.

To prepare for the upcoming snow season, here is information about being safe around District of Kitimat snow clearing equipment:

STREET CLEARING

  • Stay back at least three car lengths (15m) from the snow removal equipment while you are driving
  • Do not attempt to pass or go around snow clearing equipment
  • If operators are clearing behind you, pull into the nearest driveway to let them pass
  • Stay indoors while the machines are at work on your street

Clarifying fireworks plans for Halloween

Some earlier versions of the District of Kitimat’s recreation schedules indicated that community fireworks were planned for the evening of Halloween.

Regrettably that information was a misprint and newer versions have been corrected. We wanted to use this opportunity to clarify his information for anyone who may still have expected public fireworks.

Free Kitimat transit for general voting day

We are pleased to say that Kitimat residents will enjoy free public transit on Saturday, October 15. This includes the HandyDART service.

October 15 is general voting day for the Local General Election and free transit will make it easier for residents to get to the polls and vote.

Voting on October 15 takes place at both Riverlodge Recreation Centre, and at Mount Elizabeth Middle Secondary School, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
