Proposed updates to Kitimat Landfill adding new tipping fees

The District of Kitimat is moving closer to adding and updating tipping fees for both residential self-haul users and commercial-waste customers at the Kitimat Landfill.
The bylaw to implement these changes will be presented to Kitimat Council for a third reading on September 11, with a plan to present it for adoption at their September 25 Council meeting.

New campfire prohibition starting August 31

The District of Kitimat is re-implementing a campfire / backyard fire prohibition, in line with a campfire ban going into effect in the whole Northwest Fire Centre.
The regional campfire ban and the District of Kitimat's campfire ban will be in effect at noon tomorrow, August 31.

Due to unforeseen circumstances Riverlodge Recreation Centre will close today (Friday, August 25) at 4:30 p.m.
We will return to our regular hours at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 26.
Call for Submissions open for totem pole carving project

To commemorate the opening of the new Haisla Bridge, the District of Kitimat and Haisla Nation Council will dedicate a Haisla totem pole, which will be located just north of the new bridge on the east bank of the Kitimat River.
This totem pole is planned to be incorporated as part of a proposed lookout.
