Road resurfacing work on Lahakas Boulevard the week of June 26

Road resurfacing work on Lahakas Boulevard, from the area by Lower City Centre parking lot up to the Lahakas and Quatsino Boulevard intersection, will be taking place from June 26 until June 29.

This work will take place in the evenings, between 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and will mean alternating, single-lane traffic during the work.

Flood mapping updates brings new awareness for residents

The District of Kitimat with McElhanney have updated the community’s flood maps to better understand flood risks in today’s world.

A summary report about flood mapping is now available on the District’s website here.

Residents are welcome to browse this site for information about flood risks, how it will impact each community and also what the District’s plans are to use this information in the years ahead.

A community open house is also coming up soon to discuss flood awareness in the community....

Kitimat continues to improve its waste management services

The District of Kitimat is achieving its environmental goals as it moves ahead on modernizing and improving waste management services.

In 2020, the District adopted its Solid Waste Strategy and Action Plan which set the vision for the improvements seen today, including the expansion of curbside collection to include garbage, yard waste, food waste and recycling.

Kitimat residents have stepped up, helping to divert more than 47 per cent of waste from our landfill and providing well-sorted curbside...

Temporary road closure on Quatsino Boulevard

Planned work taking place on Quatsino Boulevard means the section between the Loganberry and Lahakas Boulevard intersection to Columbia Boulevard is closed, except for local traffic. Detour signs are in place. This work is scheduled to complete by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21. Thank you for your patience during that time.

Kitimat celebrates the new Haisla Bridge

The District of Kitimat is excited to celebrate the substantial completion of the new Haisla Bridge, marking a major milestone in this two-year construction project.

“The patience of the community now pays off as we unveil this new bridge that will be both a highly needed new river crossing, and a great showpiece of Haisla art,” says Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth.
