In 2021 the District of Kitimat began the process of installing perennial plants into several of its greenspace areas, recognizing that the annuals normally planted required significant work.
Perennials - such as lilies, peonies, catmint, coral bells, goldenrod, hostas, bellflower, daisies, ornamental grasses, sedums and many more - provide a greater variety of size, colour and texture, and are far more resistant to heat and drought, among other benefits.

Section of Peace Street closed evening of June 27
A portion of Peace Street, along the soccer field near Riverlodge, will be closed tonight, June 27, from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. This is to accommodate a hand painting event along that section of the road to honour all those who have been impacted by residential schools.

Use caution on the river during Haisla Bridge construction this summer Boaters are asked to use caution and follow any directions when passing underneath the Haisla Bridge construction area. From now until August 31, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. daily, the bridge structure will be put into place over the river. Boaters may experience delays during this work. A Ledcor-Haisla vessel may be on site to assist in passage. We appreciate everyone's caution when on the river or using nearby...
