Business licences, including home-based and mobile businesses, are required for operating within the District of Kitimat.
Having a licence is an important step that ensures your business meets local regulations and provides assurances to your clients and customers that you are a legitimate and trustworthy organization.
Here are some reasons a licence is important:
- Ensures your business is properly identified and meets local commercial regulations.
- Provides important statistical information that supports District initiatives to support local businesses.
- Ensures important communications relating to local businesses are delivered from the District.
- Having a business licence allows you to access a wide variety of business support programs through the District and other business support organizations.
- Assures your client base that your business is legitimate and is a part of the local business community.
Know your zoning
Kitimat's community plan identifies different areas of the community by zoning.
If you are starting a business, you will want to know which zones in Kitimat allow the type of business you are operating.
Information about zoning, including zoning regulations, can be found at Maps and Zoning.
Apply for a Business Licence
Fill out a business license application form and email it to our Finance Department or drop it off at our municipal office on the third floor in City Centre. This is also where payment is made.
The business licence fee can be dependent on your business classification, how large an area your business covers and how many employees you have.
Refer to: Kitimat Municipal Code, Part 4, Division 1. Fees begin on page 30.
A business licence must typically be renewed after each calendar year.
