Fireworks

The public can set off fireworks on:

  • December 31, and up to 2:00 a.m. on January 1
  • July 1
  • October 31

Fireworks can be sold by approved retailers on these dates: (See permit application in list below)

  • December 24 to December 31
  • June 22 to July 1
  • October 24 to October 31

You can also apply for a special occasions fireworks permit through the Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Service for displays outside of allowed dates.

Burn Permits

Open Fires within the District of Kitimat require a burn permit.

Burn Permits are available for processing Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..

The following items are not permitted to be burned in open fires within Kitimat municipal limits:

  • Rubbish
  • Garden refuse
  • Plastics
  • Any materials that will result in the production of dense, black smoke including:
    • Insulation from electrical wiring or equipment
    • Asphalt roofing materials
    • Hydrocarbons, plastics, rubber materials or creosoted wood
  • Any material which will generate a foul odor
  • Any material classified as a dangerous good

Backyard Fire Pits

You can have a firepit on your property up to 1 metre in diameter. Cablecar, Strawberry Meadows, and Kitamaat Village Road can have up to 1.5 metre diameter fires.

Firepits and backyard fires are prohibited during fire bans. Please be alert for any in effect, especially during the warm summer months.
