Animal Control

Picture of a dog

Your dog must be on a leash when outdoors in Kitimat, except in the designated off-leash areas.

A dog licence is required for dogs over four months old.

Remember to pick up your dog's poop and help keep our walkways and green spaces clean.

The Kitimat Community Humane Society (KCHS) provides animal control services.

KCHS Services
  • Acts as bylaw enforcement officer for animal control regulations
  • Acts as pound-keeper at the animal shelter
  • Conducts regular patrols in the community
  • Impounds animals running at large
  • Opens the animal shelter to the public
  • Provides animal humane services in the community including lost and found, adoption and education
Dog Licences

Licenses can be purchased from KCHS or at the District of Kitimat main office on the third floor in City Centre Mall.

The cost is $30 per year or $7 per year for dogs that have been spayed or neutered (proof required).
