Purpose:

The purpose of the TUP is to permit the operation of a hair salon as a home-based business. Home occupation is not permitted under the R1-A zoning regulations. Therefore, the TUP is being sought to allow this activity for a limited term, subject to conditions that ensure compatibility with the surrounding residential neighborhood.

TUPs may be issued for a maximum of three years and may be renewed once for up to an additional three years. The applicant is requesting a TUP for the maximum three years.

Providing Comment: 

Pursuant to Sections 9.2.2.17 and 9.2.2.19 of the Kitimat Municipal Code, when an application for a TUP is submitted, the Director of Community Planning & Development may issue the permit upon receipt of all required fees, supporting documentation, completion of the public review process, and consideration of staff recommendations. Council will be notified of any staff decisions and will retain its role as the appeal body. Public comments will be considered as part of the decision-making process and will be accepted until Thursday, January 29, 2026.

A copy of the application and proposed permit is available for review on the Districts website here or at the District of Kitimat Municipal Office, 270 City Centre, 8:30 am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.

Section 127(1) of the Community Charter requires that a schedule of the date, time and place of all Regular Council meetings to be held during the year be prepared and made available to the public.

Regular Meetings of Council take place on the first and third Mondays of the month, unless there is a statutory holiday, at the Council Chambers, 606 Mountainview Square at 7:00 p.m.

Additional Council meetings (Committee of the Whole or Special Meetings) may take place on the second, fourth or fifth Mondays of the month if there is sufficient business. Notice for Committee of the Whole meetings and Special Meetings of Council will be provided to the public in accordance with Bylaw No. 2055, 2024.

The Monday, July 6, Regular Meeting of Council is cancelled as per Council resolution R25-289.

The Tuesday, August 4, Regular Meeting of Council is cancelled as per Council resolution R25-291.

The Monday, October 19, Regular Meeting of Council is cancelled as per Council resolution R25-290.
