All remaining open fire prohibitions are now lifted 

As of Wednesday, September 18, Category 3 fire prohibitions are lifted, ending what was left of fire restrictions in Kitimat and the region.

A Category 3 fire is:

  • any fire larger than two metres high by three metres wide;
  • three or more concurrently burning piles each no larger than two metres high by three metres wide;
  • the burning of stubble or grass over an area greater than 0.2 hectares; and
  • the burning of one or more windrows.

Prohibitions on campfires and Category 2 fires (one or two concurrently burning piles no larger than two metres high by three metres wide) were rescinded on August 28, 2024.
