An educational series for Kitimat businesses has earned three local businesses a total of $10,000.

The Kitimat Business Builders Competition follows on the Business Builders Workshop series, which is a chance for local business operators to build their capacity for business continuity. Sessions were organised based on results from the 2023 Annual Business Walk. Participants who joined in at least three of this year’s four workshops were eligible to enter the competition phase.

These events were hosted by the District of Kitimat and the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce. It was sponsored by LNG Canada and Rio Tinto.

Six businesses were eligible for this year’s competition. During the competition, business representatives from four local businesses pitched their business expansion plans to a panel of four volunteer judges.

We are proud to share the 2024 winners of the competition:

1st  – Reltek Industries won $5,000, towards a vehicle purchase to allow them to service more customers.

2nd – Foxhound Non-Destructive Testing won $3,000, towards additional employee training and marketing support.

3rd – Matthew Mask Productions won $2,000, towards equipment purchases to support the company’s offering of marketing services to local businesses.

Support for local business does not stop here. In the Fall, the District and Kitimat Chamber of Commerce are planning the annual Entrepalooza event, a special networking and learning opportunity for existing and prospective business owners in Kitimat. Additional information will be shared as available.
