This notice is out of date. Please visit www.kitimat.ca/fire for current fire prohibitions.
The District of Kitimat is now implementing a campfire/backyard fire ban, in line with recently updated restrictions in place across the Northwest Fire Centre region.
This is in effect as of 3:00 p.m., July 10, 2023.
A campfire or backyard fire within Kitimat is defined as any fire one metre wide. Or 1.5 metres in certain areas of the community. (Visit www.kitimat.ca/fire to read our backyard fire pamphlet for information about fire sizes)
Note that campfire bans still allow for the use of CSA-or-ULC-rated cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or portable campfires that use briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuels.
Penalties for violation of fire prohibitions in B.C. can be an up to $1,150 fine, plus up to $1 million if your fire results in a wildfire.
This new prohibition joins the existing Open Fire Category 2 and 3 restrictions which have already been put in place for the community.
