Kitimat, BC — Starting at noon on Wednesday, August 28, campfires and backyard fires will be allowed in the District of Kitimat.

This joins the lifting of campfire bans in the Northwest Fire Centre.

Category 3 Open Fires remain prohibited.

Cooler temperatures and significant rainfall have improved conditions. As the long weekend approaches, residents are reminded to still exercise caution when having a campfire. Avoid having a campfire when it's windy, ensure the fire is in a proper fire pit, and keep it at least 3 metres away from trees, shrubs, structures, and debris. Do not leave a fire unattended.

You can report wildfires and unattended campfires by calling 1-800-663-5555, or call *5555 from a cell phone. You can also use the BC Wildfire Service mobile app.

You can contact the Kitimat Fire & Ambulance Service for non-emergency inquiries at 250-632-8940.
