March 20, 2020 - The District of Kitimat is taking the threat of COVID-19 very seriously. We are closely monitoring virus developments.
The District has enacted proactive operational measures to mitigate and minimize the potential transmission of COVID-19. Some of the key mitigations that have been enacted include:
- All District facilities and offices are closed to the public (appointments can be made in some circumstances)
- All District playgrounds are closed to the public
- Public transportation is free for all users (operating regular services)
- Many District employees are now working from home
The District of Kitimat will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments, re-assess operational practices, and make any necessary operational measures to minimize and mitigate the transmission of COVID-19 in our community.
We will continue ongoing, up-to-date communications for the community through official social media pages, www.kitimat.ca, and periodic print communications.
For the health, safety, and well-being of community residents and guests, the District of Kitimat implores you to take the following measures:
- Practice social distancing
- Take every recommended precaution
- Only follow official sources of information
- Do not engage in panic buying or hoarding
- Be kind and compassionate during these trying times
Please stay safe, help each other out, and wash those hands!
