District proud to recognize 2024’s Distinguished Citizens

The District of Kitimat is privileged to honour the recipients of 2024’s Distinguished Citizen Awards.

Each year as part of our July 1 celebrations, the District recognizes the positive ways citizens and groups build and support our community.

The recipients are selected from candidates who are nominated by residents in the community, and the winners are presented during July 1 stage show presentations at Riverlodge Recreation Centre.

Our Distinguished Citizen Award recipients:

Ashley Hinton

“For going above and beyond in giving back to the community through volunteerism for special events and assisting with community activities for various agencies in Kitimat.” 

Douglas Channel Watch Board

“For decades of continuously providing the community with public education regarding the ecosystems and marine life that exists in the Douglas Channel and surrounding areas. As well as tirelessly advocating for proactive protection measures and ecological preservation.”

Grace Feduniak

“For numerous acts of volunteerism in the community, specifically focused towards youth in a generous act of ‘giving back’ and for the creation of an annual High School Scholarship.”

Katrina Kindrat

“For your social outreach in Kitimat including the setting up and organizing Creative Canvas Canada and Kitimat Experiences to bring community members together; hosting over forty events such as weekly paint nights, hikes, kayaking, barbecues, volunteer activities and dog walking.”

Kitimat Economic Development Association

“For the dedication and organization of the 2023 Minerals North Conference and the support in economic development in Kitimat over many years.”

KUTE Board

“For over 30 years of service to Kitimat, as the only recycling depot that serves all sectors (residential, industrial, commercial & institutional); as well as ongoing educational campaigns and initiatives to promote sustainable lifestyles.”

“For many years of efforts to educate the public about the important of environmental stewardship. Provision, over many years, of numerous opportunities for the public to immerse themselves in the natural world as well as participating in events promotion eco-conscientiousness.”
