FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION:

Survey will foster a vision of Kitimat’s economic future

Kitimat BC, May 4, 2023
A new community survey is asking residents and businesses in Kitimat to share their ideas about how to boost our economy and enhance quality of life.

The District of Kitimat is creating an Economic Development Strategy, focused on creating a diverse local economy. This survey is important to understand what motivates people to move to Kitimat, and how to nurture business growth and entrepreneurship. The surveys include visioning for the future and sharing ideas about opportunities.

The strategy will guide efforts to support and grow existing businesses and attract workforce and investment. The strategy also aims to connect the dots to a broader community development action plan that enables job creation, including: placemaking, housing choice and affordability, and more flexible commercial form and function for today’s entrepreneurs needing more nimble solutions.

It's anticipated the strategy will be complete in June 2023.

You can fill out the survey today by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MWKXFX9. The survey closes June 1, 2023.

Supporting this process are ongoing workshops with community leaders, data analysis of competitive economic sectors, and one-on-one interviews with community and business leaders.

“We want this Economic Development Strategy to embrace big ideas that will nurture a sustainable and prosperous community where people come to pursue the good life, and stay,” says District of Kitimat Director of Economic Development and Communications Walsham Tenshak. “We also need to focus on clear actions that will support our ambitious vision for the future.”
