The District of Kitimat is further enhancing healthcare by boosting healthcare incentives to include housing allowances.
The addition of a housing allowance as part of the Healthcare Recruitment and Retention Incentive program means that eligible professionals can either receive up to three months of rent or a single, lump-sum payment to support the purchase of a house. This added incentive means local healthcare providers have support to access stable housing and encourages them to buy homes and set up roots in the community.
The housing allowance builds on the program launched in August which provides financial incentives for healthcare professionals accepting positions in Kitimat. The District is happy with the uptake so far for this program, which is retroactive to January 1, 2025.
Additional initiatives are also in development including retention and training incentives, as well as welcome packages. These measures aim to make Kitimat an even more attractive destination for healthcare professionals.
The first year of funding for this program is provided by LNG Canada.
