Fire Department responds to morning call to Kitimat Ice Rink

The Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre will also be closed today, March 17. This is due to access restrictions on the outside walkways near the pool's entrance, following the fire at Kitimat Ice Rink. The public is encouraged to not use the walkways outside Kitimat Ice Rink and the Aquatic Centre entrance, and to follow any posted signs and barricades.

Tamitik Arena remains open for today's programming.

On Sunday, March 17, the Kitimat Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Kitimat Ice Rink.

The department received the call at approximately 6:30 a.m. and responded with two fire trucks and an ambulance. No injuries were reported and the fire was quickly extinguished.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.

Due to this situation, all programming scheduled for Kitimat Ice Rink for March 17 has been cancelled.

No other buildings were damaged by fire, but the smell of smoke has travelled into the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre. The air quality is being evaluated to know whether it will be safe to open today.
