Kitimat, BC — The District of Kitimat became aware of a fire within the vicinity of the Fire Mountain Shooting Range around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 17.

 

The Kitimat Fire Department immediately responded with a wild land fire truck and water tenders. Fire crews from the Haisla Nation Volunteer Fire Department, BC Wildfire Service and District of Kitimat Fire Department were active at the scene on Saturday evening. The fire was monitored overnight Saturday, and the fire response resumed on Sunday. BC Wildfire Service deployed an air tanker Saturday night and a helicopter with water bucket on Sunday.

 

On Monday, August 19 the fire was classified as Being Held. This classification was updated to Under Control by Tuesday, August 20. No buildings or critical infrastructure were affected by the fire.

 

BC Wildfire Service continues to action all fire hotspots over the next two days. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

 

Due to this situation, residents are encouraged to stay away from the area. The Fire Mountain Shooting Range will remain closed until further notice.
