August 21, 2020 - The District of Kitimat is pleased to announce the implementation of free bus fares for K-12 students.
The one year pilot project is intended to:
- Support families by lifting cost barriers and increasing transportation access.
- Introduce more young residents to public transportation and facilitate a shift towards more environmentally sustainable transportation habits.
Students in high school (ages 15-18) will be required to show their student ID’s in order to participate in the pilot program. When students receive their new student IDs in the fall, stickers will be provided and required on all student IDs in order to board the bus for free. Students who do not currently possess a student ID, or are unable to obtain one, can acquire a free monthly transit pass at the District of Kitimat Municipal Office (3rd floor in City Centre Mall) or District of Kitimat recreation facilities.
Students 14 years of age and under will not be required to show student ID.
