Starting at noon on Thursday, August 1, campfires and backyard fires will be allowed in the District of Kitimat.

This joins the lifting of campfire bans in the Prince George and Northwest Fire Centres at the same time.

Category 2 and 3 Open Fires remain prohibited.

Recent rain and cooler temperatures have improved conditions, however the public is reminded to still exercise caution. Avoid having a campfire when it's windy, ensure the fire is in a proper fire put, and keep it at least 3 metres away from trees, shrubs, structures, and debris. Do not leave a fire unattended.

You can report wildfires and unattended campfires by calling 1-800-663-5555, or call *5555 from a cell phone. You can also use the BC Wildfire Service mobile app.

You can contact the Kitimat Fire & Ambulance Service for non-emergency inquiries at 250-632-8940.

For all emergencies please dial 9-1-1.
